Hi I'm new to RC. Have a temper I'm happily modding in the shed
Upgraded the servo to a 15kg high torque one. Was this a bad idea? (It's a cheapie tower pro) I replaced it after it died. and the replacement died almost instantly making a nasty sounding high pitched hum after centering.

I think it's not so much a matter of the servo being too strong, but it's so cheap. The TowerPro servos have a really poor reputation for being junk.

The stock ESC/Rx in the Temper only provides 5V. I ran two S603 servos for 4WS using a Y-harness and had no trouble powering both (admittedly weak) servos.

Thanks I r beej. Guess jus have to fit a weaker more expensive servo and replace the ESC. So several months of broken useless crawler. In it's defence I was digging holes on a soft sand hill in burning heat. While holding full throttle and ragging the steering.
So the ESC can jus run two servos sweet.

I spoke with the friend I got the temper from. He says I most likely killed the receiver by playing with trim settings then ragging on it.
Noob fail
He's gonna teach me how to set up the controller this weekend
