Broken drive shaft 1/18 Ruckus 4WD

I made an impulse buy yesterday and bought a 1/18 Ruckus 4WD truck for my kids (and myself) at a local hobby shop. Long story short, hit a tree and now one of the driveshafts is broken.

I’m new to RC and I’m quickly learning that this particular scale model doesn’t have a lot of options in the form of sturdier parts. I’ve already ordered a replacement driveshaft set, but wondering if there’s another option to upgrade to metal. I’m sure this will happen again. Is it better to just buy a 1/10 scale model?

Hot Racing used to make a lot of upgrades for the 1/18 platform like driveshafts but trying to find them is like trying to find hens teeth. Yes buy a current model car. If you want a vehicle that you will never have to worry about finding parts for get a Traxxas Slash, Stampede or Rustler. You can literally build any of them from nothing but aftermarket parts.
