1/10? Hot Racing makes good steel spur gears the stock gearing is 87T
You should be fine with a metal pinion and the stock plastic spur if your mesh is good. If you’re talking about the metal internal transmission gears you don’t need to change the pinion or the spur

All ECX 1/10 Can use same spur gear but 87t only fit one model. Buy metal gears from Amazon, cheaper than hobby stores.
They all can fit any of the Hot Racing spurs from 81T - 87T. They are all the same 48P. I’ve used them all. They list them as model specific based off the gear ratio they initially came with.
You can use other streel spurs from other models. I’ve used 32P setups in vastly different ratios, a mod1 setups in direct drive (no clutch) in max effort builds.
