Hey im new here just purchased a 1/24 temper and immediately started building it. My original intention was to just use the rear axle in 1/18 scale rc builds but i figured the axle and driveshaft wouldnt hold up to 30k rpm. So i built a truck model and modified a few things to make it fit, be removable, look good. Anyway its a good little truck but boy is it slow. Anyone know of a motor/battery combo to get some more speed or am i stuck with snail speed?

Welcome @Djscustoms! Great looking truck. Looks like you have an awesome garage to work on it in too.

I got a 1/24 Temper a couple of weeks ago and I'm also looking around for ways to boost performance.

Last night I started disassembling the drivetrain with intent to measure all the bushings for replacement with bearings. The rear axle housing holds 10 bushings. What?! That's crazy for such a tiny car.

However, what interested me most was that the worm pinion and spool gears were COMPLETELY unlubricated. There was some obvious contact wear and "polishing." I applied some FinishLine Fluoro-Extreme grease (a very light grease that's a pure fluorinated compound) and closed it up. Going to service the front axle today.

If you discover anything post back here.

Nice looking truck, BTW!

Thank you! I actually went to hobbytown and picked up a 250 mah 2 cell lipo battery for $20 its a 7.4v i think. The truck woke right up and works great! Has alot more speed and torque. If actually crawling though I would use the original battery. Hope this helps!

Are you still running the Lipo in it? and if so, have you had any indications of the ESC kinda giving off a smell and getting pretty warm not hot after 5min of runtime? Reason for the question I used a similar Lipo but only a 180mah and this happened to mines after a second use on the Lipo so stopped using to do so more research just to make sure it won't completely burn it up (ESC).

Thanks,

Cesar

Actually still running the lipo but got a new ESC and put a ttx300 radio in it. Made some major modifications and now it's 1/10 scale. I do use this ESC in a different project and running a 7.4 but I haven't had any issues.

@i_r_beej --- were you successful on replacing your bushings with bearings ? This is the one thing besides axle sway and the battery life that really bother me. Is it true bushings are okay if u have the power/Motor for it ?

I never did replace the bushings for bearings. A set of bearings would cost almost US$30... not really worth it. The car is so small and light with a tiny, tiny motor and wheel speed is so slow that I don't think bearings would really provide much practical benefit over bushings. But I reserve the right to be completely irrational some day and install bearings in the 1/14 temper! ;)
